It’s that wonderful time of year again, to come out of our winter cocoons and enjoy our beautiful city and weather. What may not seem so wonderful though, is getting ready for those swimsuits and shorts. No fear! Total Nutrition Technology is here to help with customized plans that can help anyone get healthy and fit (and ready to rock those summer styles). We also have a few ideas for Spring that can get you active and having a little fun too.
Mix up your exercise routine. North Carolina has so much natural beauty to discover, so take in the sights while burning some of those pesky calories at the same time.
Biking
Our local bike trails are as varied as our regions. There’s the 23-mile American Tobacco Trail in the Triangle, or the easy to advanced trails at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. For a wonderful Spring experience, rent a bike and view the gorgeous landscape on a scenic byway. Want to try something a little more challenging? The Brevard area is known as the Cycling Capital of the South, while the High Country delivers extreme thrills at Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Rocky Knob Park.
Hiking
North Carolina has a wonderful variety of nature trails. You can take a hourlong walk to a waterfall or hike the day in a state park. Looking for a more extreme adventure? Plan a hike on the Appalachian Trail or trek the 1,000-mile Mountains-to-Sea Trail, which stretches from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks.
Water Sports
National Geographic named Wrightsville Beach one of the world’s 20 best surf towns for its appeal to beginners and pros alike. Haven’t attempted paddleboarding yet? It’s fun and another excellent workout that lets you see the coast in a new way and it’s available in our back yard at the White Water Center. Also, try whitewater rafting there or in the mountains, or keep it a little more laid back with canoeing or kayaking on the lake.
Visit your local farmer’s market. These are a great way to get out and moving in Spring while finding some nutritious and delicious items. It’s also a good way to help support local businesses, artisans and farmers. Here are few farmer’s markets happening in our area:
