Do you have a New Years Resolution? If you are tired of the popular “lose x pounds” resolution that most people start on Jan 1 and forget by Jan 15,  check out this article by Good Housekeeping with loads of resolution ideas. Here are some of our favorites from the list:

  1. Drink more water
  2. Eat more vegetables
  3. Cook something new each week

Got a resolution? Great! And why wait until January to get started on your goals? Follow these tips to start accomplishing today.

  1. Choose a Mantra to Motivate You

Something like “My health is my gift to my family”, “I’m worth it” or “Get it done.” Choose a mantra that you really truly believe in…one that will motivate you when you really don’t feel like putting in the extra effort.

  1. Make it Too Difficult to Quit

Plan out your gym clothes and shoes. Prep your lunch ahead of time. Plan out your meals. If you plan ahead, you’re more likely to follow through.

  1. Schedule Active Outings with Friends and Family

Meeting with friends? Plan an active outing. Instead of meeting at a bar or restaurant, go on a walk together, ride bikes, throw a frisbee, or go ice skating at the hockey rink. You’re less likely to back out if you’ve made physical activity a fun event.

  1. Reject the Lie that you Need Stuff to Get Started

You don’t need anything to get started eating healthy and exercising. But some things make it easier. Don’t let not having gym equipment, a gym membership, a food scale, or a fancy lunchbox stop you from getting started. The best day to start is today.

  1. Get some Skin in the Game

Some people need a deadline for that initial motivation. Some people need to put a little bit of money into it. If that’s you, go ahead and make that commitment. Put the 5k on your calendar. Sign up for the gym membership. Plan out your appointments with your HE or RD for the next month. Those things will hold you accountable.

Making the decision to start prioritizing your health is the first step! We’re excited that you have chosen the journey and we are excited to support you along the way.
